Sisi is widely expected to run for president but has yet to make a formal announcement
Egypt's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will run for president if the people request it and the military supports the bid, state media quote him saying.

"If I nominate myself, there must be a popular demand, and a mandate from my army," state paper Al-Ahram quoted him as telling Egyptian officials.
The general feels he could not stand aside if there was palpable demand for him to run, an official told AFP.
Recent local reports have suggested the general is eyeing a presidential bid.

The case of a 10-year-old girl in Pakistan's Punjab province, whose employers confessed to beating her to death last week, has highlighted concerns about child rights. The BBC's Saba Eitizaz reports on a case that shocked the nation.
Human rights organisations argue that Pakistan's labour laws ignore child abuse in a country where almost half the population is under the age of 18. It is an oversight which often has tragic consequences.
Evidence of that can be found in a small village in the province of Punjab, where a haunting wailing echoes off the crumbling mud walls of a ramshackle home.
It sounds like many mothers crying for lost children.
It is called the "wayne" - the song for the dead and is an integral part of the local funeral ritual.

Insurance Policies

A Pakistani teenager has been recommended for a civilian award, after he was killed when tackling a suicide bomber who had targeted his school.

Aitzaz Hasan, 15, is being hailed as a hero for confronting the attacker, who then detonated his vest.
Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have asked the local government to nominate Aitzaz for a national award.
The local authorities have also said they will offer compensation for Aitzaz's family.
The Minister for Information in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province Shah Farman, said on Thursday that Aitzaz was a "real hero and true face of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa".
He added that they would "extend all possible compensation to [the] family of this brave son of the province".
'Valiant act' The incident took place on Monday in Ibrahimzai, a Shia-dominated region of Hangu, in north-western Pakistan. There were almost 2,000 students in attendance at the time of the attack, and Aitzaz is being credited with saving hundreds of lives.

Police also said they had recommended Aitzaz for the highest of civilian awards.
The police chief in KP province wrote in his letter of recommendation to the provincial government that Aitzaz had sacrificed his life, "but by this valiant act of his, he was able to save lives of many other young children".
The provincial government in turn recommends recipients for awards to the federal administration who make the final decision.
But there have even been calls for him to receive the army's highest honour, awarded to those who have sacrificed their life for their country, though it is unclear if he would be qualified to receive it as a civilian.
Aitzaz's actions have prompted an outpouring of praise and gratitude on social media, cemented as the details of his bravery became known.
